RESUMO

In this study, we synthesized new 5,6,7,8-tetrahydroisoquinolines and 6,7,8,9-tetrahydrothieno[2,3-c]isoquinolines based on 4-(N,N-dimethylamino)phenyl moiety as expected anticancer and/or antioxidant agents. The structure of all synthesized compounds were confirmed by spectral date (FT-IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR) and elemental analysis. We evaluated the anticancer activity of these compounds toward two cell lines: A459 cell line (lung cancer cells) and MCF7 cell line (breast cancer cells). All tested compounds showed moderate to strong anti-cancer activity towards the two cell lines. Compound 7e exhibited the most potent cytotoxic activity against A549 cell line (IC50: 0.155 µM) while compound 8d showed the most potent one against MCF7 cell line (IC50: 0.170 µM) in comparison with doxorubicin. In addition, we examined the effect of compounds 7e and 8d regarding the growth of A549 and MCF7 cell lines, employing flow cytometry and Annexin V-FITC apoptotic assay. Our results showed that compound 7e caused cell cycle arrest at the G2/M phase with a 79-fold increase in apoptosis of A459 cell line. Moreover, compound 8d caused cell cycle arrest at the S phase with a 69-fold increase in apoptosis of MCF7 cell line. Furthermore, we studied the activity of these compounds as enzyme inhibitors against several enzymes. Our findings by docking and experimental studies that compound 7e is a potent CDK2 inhibitor with IC50 of 0.149 µM, compared to the Roscovitine control drug with IC50 of 0.380 µM. We also found that compound 8d is a significant DHFR inhibitor with an IC50 of 0.199 µM, compared to Methotrexate control drug with IC50 of 0.131 µM. Evaluation of the antioxidant properties of ten compounds was also studied in comparison with Vitamin C. Compounds 1, 3, 6, 7c and 8e have higher antioxidant activity than Vitamin C which mean that these compounds can used as potent antioxidant drugs.

RESUMO

Heterocyclic compounds with effective solid-state luminescence offer a wide range of uses. It has been observed that combining pyrimidine and indole moieties in a single molecule can enhance material behavior dramatically. Here, different heterocyclic compounds with indole and pyrimidine moieties have been synthesized effectively, and their structures have been validated using NMR, IR, and mass spectroscopy. The photoluminescence behavior of two substances was investigated in powder form and solutions of varying concentrations. After aggregation, one molecule displayed a redshifted luminescence spectrum, whereas another homolog showed a blueshift. Thus, density functional theory calculations were carried out to establish that introducing a terminal group allows modifying of the luminescence behavior by altering the molecular packing. Because of the non-planarity, intermolecular interactions, and tiny intermolecular distances within the dimers, the materials demonstrated a good emission quantum yield (Φem) in the solid state (ex. 25.6%). At high temperatures, the compounds also demonstrated a stable emission characteristic.

RESUMO

Regioselective cyclocondensation of 2,4-diacetyl-5-hydroxy-5-methyl-3-(3-nitrophenyl/4-nitrophenyl)cyclohexanones 1a,b with cyanothioacetamide afforded the corresponding 7-acetyl-4-cyano-1,6-dimethyl-6-hydroxy-8-(3- and -4-nitrophenyl)-5,6,7,8-tetrahydrosoquinoline-3(2H)-thiones 2a,b. Reaction of compounds 2a,b with ethyl iodide, 2-chloroacetamide (4a), or its N-aryl derivatives 4b-e in the presence of sodium acetate trihydrate gave 3-ethylthio-5,6,7,8-tetrahydroisoquinoline 3 and (5,6,7,8-tetrahydroisoquinolin-3-ylthio)acetamides 5a-i, respectively. Cyclization of compounds 5b-d,f,g into their isomeric 1-amino-6,7,8,9-tetrahydrothieno[2,3-c]isoquinoline-2-carboxamides 6b-d,f,g was achieved by heating in ethanol containing a catalytic amount of sodium carbonate. Structures of all synthesized compounds were characterized on the basis of their elemental analyses and spectroscopic data. The crystal structure of 5,6,7,8-tetrahydroisoquinoline 5d was determined by X-ray diffraction analysis. In addition, the biological evaluation of some synthesized compounds as anticancer agents was performed, and only six compounds showed moderate to strong activity against PACA2 (pancreatic cancer cell line) and A549 (lung carcinoma cell line). Moreover, the antioxidant properties of most synthesized compounds were examined. The results revealed high antioxidant activity for the most tested compounds.

RESUMO

The integration of photovoltaic into a greenhouse has been implemented to maximize the energy output and crop production yield from the same land space. The effect of greenhouse external shading of opaque crystalline silicon photovoltaic (PV) panels at 13-26% of the roof area on the microclimate and growth of Chili pepper Capsicum annuum cv. (omega) was investigated. The PV panels were divided into two arrays (each of 4 PVs) and fixed separately on two external pillars of 4 m height in the Southeast and Northwest directions, respectively. Each array of 4 PVs could be tracked from the East-West direction to North-South. There were two greenhouses, one was used as control without shading and the other had the external shading. The results revealed that the external shading of PV slightly decreased air temperatures (1-2 °C) and light intensities (25-40%) but had no effect on the dew point temperatures and relative humidity as compared to the control (unshaded greenhouse). Furthermore, the yield and growth of Chili pepper in the shaded greenhouse was insignificantly higher than that in the unshaded greenhouse. Moreover, the simulation results revealed that the estimated electric energy of photovoltaic panels was 3705 kWh/year at a tilt angle of 25° facing South.

RESUMO

The title mol-ecule, C29H29N3O4S, adopts a conformation with the two phenyl substituents disposed on opposite sides of the mean plane of the iso-quinoline unit. In the crystal, corrugated layers of mol-ecules are formed by N-H⋯O, C-H⋯N and C-H⋯S hydrogen bonds together with C-H⋯π(ring) inter-actions. These layers are connected by C-H⋯O contacts. The Hirshfeld surface analysis of the crystal structure indicates that the most important contributions for the crystal packing are from H⋯H (45.2%), C⋯H/H⋯C (20.2%), O⋯H/H⋯O (15.8%) and N⋯H/H⋯N (11.0%) inter-actions.

RESUMO

Graphene-based metal oxide nanocomposites are interesting and promising kinds of nanocomposites due to their large specific area, fast kinetics, and specific affinity towards heavy metal contaminants. In this work, a facile and cost-effective route was used to synthesize CdO nanoparticles (CdO NPs) and graphene-based CdO nanocomposite (G-CdO). The prepared nanomaterials were characterized and explored for lead removal from water. Both CdO NPs and G-CdO composite exhibited excellent sorption capacity of 427 and 398 mg g-1, respectively, at pH 4.8 and T = 298 K, which was superior to individual graphene and many other adsorbents. The results indicated that the recovered nanomaterials endure 4 times recyclability retaining up to 89% lead uptake efficiency. To complement the experimental study, DFT calculations were performed to investigate the stability of the formed G-CdO composite compared to CdO NPs; the reactivity of G-CdO compared to plain graphene as well as the interaction insights between graphene and CdO clusters were studied using natural-bond-orbital (NBO), electron-localization-function (ELF) and reduced-density-gradient (RDG) analyses.

RESUMO

Biocompatible luminogens with aggregation-induced emission (AIE) have several applications in the biology field, such as in detecting biomacromolecules bioprobes and in bio-imaging. Due to their bioactivities and light-emitting properties, many heterocyclic compounds are good candidates for such applications. However, heterocyclic π-conjugated systems with AIE behavior remain rare as strong intermolecular π-π interactions usually quench their emission. In this work, new thienopyrimidine heterocyclic compounds were synthesized and their structures were verified by elemental analysis and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and 13C NMR spectra. The photophysical properties of some compounds were investigated in the solution and solid states. Density functional theory calculations were also performed to confirm the observed photophysical properties of the compounds. The studied dyes displayed AIE properties with spectral shapes related to the aggregate structure and a quantum yield up to 10.8%. The emission efficiency of the powder is attributed to the incorporation of multiply rotatable and twisted aryl groups to the fused heterocyclic moieties. The dyes also showed high thermal stability and potent antimicrobial activities against numerous bacterial and fungal strains. Additionally, the cytotoxicity of the new compounds was evaluated against the Caco-2 cell line, and molecular docking was used to investigate the binding conformation of the most effective compound with the MNK2 enzyme. Therefore, the presented structures may potentially be used for bioapplications.

RESUMO

The release of Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as Ibuprofen (Ibu), Naproxen (Nab) and Diclofenac (Dic) to the aquatic system cause serious environmental problems. In this study, green-synthesized copper nanoparticles (Cu NPs) have been used as nano-adsorbent for the removal of Ibu, Nab, and Dic from wastewater samples. Formation of Cu NPs was confirmed by different analytical techniques. The adsorption parameters such as temperature, pH, adsorbate concentration, adsorbent dose and contact time were studied. The best removal results were obtained at these conditions: temperature 298 K, pH = 4.5, 10.0 mg Cu NPs, 60 min. At these conditions, the removal percentage of Ibu, Nap, and Dic were found to be 74.4, 86.9 and 91.4% respectively. The maximum monolayer adsorption capacities were calculated as 36.0, 33.9 and 33.9 mg/g for Dic, Nap, and Ibu respectively. The kinetic studies conducted that the sorption process obeyed the second order kinetic model, while the thermodynamic results revealed that the adsorption process was spontaneous, endothermic (+23.8, +40.8 and +38.3 kJ/mol for Ibu, Nap and Dic respectively). The results revealed that green-synthesized copper nano-adsorbent may be used for the removal of the anti-inflammatory drugs from real wastewater efficiently.

RESUMO

A lot of insecticides are found nowadays, but neonicotinoids are considered the most famous. So, a series of pyridine derivatives neonicotinoids analogues, namely, 3-cyano-4,6-dimethylpyridine-2(1H)-one (1), 2-chloro-3-cyano-4,6-dimethylpyridine (2), 3-cyano-4,6-dimethylpyridine-2(1H)-thione (3), 3-cyano-4,6-distyrylpyridine-2(1H)-thione (4), 2-((3-cyano-4,6-distyrylpyridin-2-yl)thio)-N-phenylacetamide (5), 3-amino-N-phenyl-4,6-distyrylthieno[2,3-b]pyridine-2-carboxamide (6), 2-((3-cyano-4,6-distyrylpyridin-2-yl)thio)-N-(p-tolyl)acetamide (7), 3-amino-4,6-distyryl-N-(p-tolyl)thieno[2,3-b]pyridine-2-carboxamide (8), 2-((3-cyano-4,6-distyrylpyridin-2-yl)thio)-N-(4-methoxyphenyl)acetamide (9), and 3-amino-N-(4-methoxyphenyl)-4,6-distyrylthieno[2,3-b]pyridine-2-carboxamide (10), have been designed and synthesized in pure state, and their agricultural bioefficacy as insecticides against cowpea aphid Aphis craccivora Koch was screened. The structures of the synthesized compounds were verified by means of spectroscopic and elemental analyses. Insecticidal bioefficacy data illustrated that some compounds are excellent against cowpea aphid, and the bioefficacy of the rest of the tested compounds ranged from good to moderate against the same insects.

RESUMO

Neonicotinoids are the most widely used from all existing pesticides. So, in purpose to discover new pesticides being more effective against the aphid, twelve heterocyclic compounds neonicotinoid analogs have been prepared in a pure state; pyrimidothienotetrahydroisoquinolines 1-12 and their toxicity as potential insecticidal agents against cowpea Aphid, Aphis craccivora Koch was screened. Their characterizations by using spectroscopic analyses were performed. The toxicity data exhibited that the 8-chloropyrimidine compound 4 is more toxic about 2-fold than a reference insecticide, acetamiprid. The other screened compounds showed weak to strong toxicological activities against cowpea aphid.

RESUMO

A cost-effective method for the biosynthesis of copper nanoparticles (Cu-NPLs) using Tilia extract under optimum conditions has been presented. The use of Tilia extracts for the synthesis of Cu-NPLs has been investigated for the first time. The Cu-NPLs are stable due to in situ bio-capping by the Tilia extract residues. Formation of metallic Cu was revealed by UV-vis and XRD analyses. UV-vis of Cu-NPLs showed an SPR characteristic peak at 563 nm (energy bandgap = 2.1 eV). Morphology and size of the as-prepared Cu-NPLs were determined using SEM and TEM studies. TEM observations show that the produced Cu-NPLs are hemispherical in shape with different diameters in the range 4.7-17.4 nm. The electrical conductivity of the Cu-NPLs was determined as 1.04 × 10-6 S cm-1 (at T = 120 K). The antimicrobial studies exhibited relatively high activity against pathogenic bacteria like Gram-positive & Gram-negative bacteria. Anticancer studies demonstrated the in vitro cytotoxicity value of Cu-NPLs against tested human colon cancer Caco-2 cells, human hepatic cancer HepG2 cells and human breast cancer Mcf-7 cells. To conclude, Cu-NPLs are promising in electronic devices and they possess a potential anticancer application for some human cancer therapy as well.

RESUMO

A simple, convenient method for the formation of hybrid metal/conductive polymer nanostructures is described. Polyimidazole (PIm) has been templated on λ-DNA via oxidative polymerisation of imidazole using FeCl3 to produce conductive PIm/DNA nanowires. The PIm/DNA nanowires were decorated with Pd (Pd/PIm/DNA) by electroless reduction of PdCl4(-2) with NaBH4 in the presence of PIm/DNA; the choice of imidazole was motivated by the potential Pd(II) binding site at the pyridinic N atom. The formation of PIm/DNA and the presence of metallic Pd on Pd/PIm/DNA nanowires were verified by FTIR, UV-vis and XPS spectroscopy techniques. AFM studies show that the nanowires have diameters in the range 5-45 nm with a slightly greater mean diameter (17.1 ± 0.75 nm) for the Pd-decorated nanowires than the PIm/DNA nanowires (14.5 ± 0.89 nm). After incubation for 24 h in the polymerisation solution, the PIm/DNA nanowires show a smooth, uniform morphology, which is retained after decoration with Pd. Using a combination of scanned conductance microscopy, conductive AFM and two-terminal measurements we show that both types of nanowire are conductive and that it is possible to discriminate different possible mechanisms of transport. The conductivity of the Pd/PIm/DNA nanowires, (0.1-1.4 S cm(-1)), is comparable to the PIm/DNA nanowires (0.37 ± 0.029 S cm(-1)). In addition, the conductance of Pd/PIm/DNA nanowires exhibits Arrhenius behaviour (E(a )= 0.43 ± 0.02 eV) as a function of temperature in contrast to simple Pd/DNA nanowires. These results indicate that although the Pd crystallites on Pd/PIm/DNA nanowires decorate the PIm polymer, the major current pathway is through the polymer rather than the Pd.

RESUMO

Electroless templating on DNA is established as a means to prepare high aspect ratio nanowires via aqueous reactions at room temperature. In this report we show how Pd nanowires with extremely small grain sizes (< 2 nm) can be prepared by reduction of PdCl4(2-) in the presence of lambda-DNA. In AFM images the wires are smooth and uniform in appearance, but the grain size estimated by the Scherrer treatment of line broadening in X-ray diffraction is less than the diameter of the wires from AFM (of order 10 nm). Electrical characterisation of single nanowires by conductive AFM shows ohmic behaviour, but with high contact resistances and a resistivity (-10(-2) omega cm) much higher than the bulk value for Pd metal (-10(-5) cm @ 20 degrees C). These observations can be accounted for by a model of the nanowire growth mechanism which naturally leads to the formation of a granular metal. Using a simple combing technique with control of the surface hydrophilicity, DNA-templated Pd nanowires have also been prepared as networks on an Si/SiO2 substrate. These networks are highly convenient for the preparation of two-terminal electronic sensors for the detection of hydrogen gas. The response of these hydrogen sensors is presented and a model of the sensor response in terms of the diffusion of hydrogen into the nanowires is described. The granular structure of the nanowires makes them relatively poor conductors, but they retain a useful sensitivity to hydrogen gas.

RESUMO

DNA strands have been used as templates for the self-assembly of smooth and conductive cuprous oxide (Cu2O) nanowires of diameter 12-23 nm and whose length is determined by the template (16 µm for λ-DNA). A combination of spectroscopic, diffraction and probe microscopy techniques showed that these nanowires comprise single crystallites of Cu2O bound to the DNA molecules which fused together over time in a process analogous to Ostwald ripening, but driven by the free energy of interaction with the template as well as the surface tension. Electrical characterization of the nanowires by a non-contact method, scanned conductance microscopy and by contact mode conductive AFM showed the wires are electrically conductive. The conductivity estimated from the AFM cross section and the zero-bias conductance in conductive AFM experiments was 2.2-3.3 S cm⁻¹. These Cu2O nanowires are amongst the thinnest reported and show evidence of strong quantum confinement in electronic spectra.

RESUMO

Polyindole (PIn) nanowires were formed on a lambda-DNA template by chemical oxidation of indole using aqueous FeCl3. The resulting nanowires are smooth, regular, conductive and had diameters in the range of 5-30 nm. These features allow them to be aligned by molecular combing and studied by scanned conductance microscopy, conductive AFM, and two-terminal I-V measurements. Using this combination of measurements, we find that the conductivity of PIn/DNA nanowires is between 2.5 and 40 S cm(-1) at room temperature, which is substantially greater than that in previous reports on the bulk polyindole conductivity (typically 10(-2)-10(-1) S cm(-1)). The conductance at zero bias shows an Arrhenius-type of dependence on temperature over the range of 233 to 373 K, and the values observed upon heating and cooling are repeatable within 5%; this behavior is consistent with a hopping mechanism of conductivity.
